Biodegradation only means that the object can be decomposed by bacterial or other organisms, while “compostful” in the plastic industry is defined in an aerobic environment that remains under certain controlled temperatures and humidity conditions. Compostable refers to biological decomposition capable of composting farms, making materials not visually distinguish, and decomposes to carbon dioxide, water, inorganic compounds and biomass with a rate consistent with known compostible materials.
